According to a report from a local new site "Derbyshire Times" a local resident has been left perplexed after seeing the mysterious bright object – which was said to be stationary at first but then shot off at ‘incredible and breathtaking’ speed.
The witness says “It's difficult to say how high, far away or how big it was. I recorded the object on my smartphone, set to full zoom, for just over one minute. I have no idea what I saw and I would not like to speculate, apart from to say it was a very unusual looking object – one like I have never seen before."
“All I can say is the thing was a bright, circular, reddish, peachy-coloured object, with a brighter red glow around the outside of it.
“It was silent and remained stationary the whole time I saw it – until it shot off high up into the sky at incredible and breathtaking speed and was gone in less than a second.
“The speed at which it shot off at was simply too fast for it to be any kind of conventional aircraft or object.”
Analysis
The sky over Matlock on the 27 February night was clear, and it would be possible to observe the heavens.
According to Stellarium the planet Mars would have been large and bright low down to the west. The planet would look like a large red fuzzy ball on a smartphone - just as we see here.
The planet Mars cannot move rapidly so how do we explain the movement in the video? We could suggest the witness simply tilted their camera downwards resulting in the object "shooting" upwards.
Conclusion - Witness trying to make out the planet Mars is a UFO
